Plans: what each one includes

Every Shadow Edge plan shares the same core experience — pick a ready-made item from our curated library (or import your own), shadow each line, and get scored. The plans differ in how much you can do (how many of your own sources, how much scoring, how long each recording) and in a few features that only the higher plans unlock (video, the sound-by-sound breakdown, priority scoring). This page explains the differences in plain terms. For current prices, open the app and go to Account → Plans.

First, two scoring terms used below:

  • Studio-grade scoring — our most accurate pronunciation scoring. There's a limit on how many of these you get per day and per month, depending on plan.
  • Cost-optimized scoring — a lighter scoring engine that there's no count limit on. When you reach your daily studio-grade limit, scoring quietly continues with this so you're never fully blocked. (It still counts toward your daily practice-time limit, like all scoring.)

The plans at a glance

Free

A real, ongoing plan — not a timed demo. Practice with the curated library, import your own audio, and get scored every day. You get a daily taste of studio-grade scoring, then cost-optimized scoring continues. Audio only, a small private library, and the standard score view (overall score, four detailed scores, and per-word colors — but not the sound-by-sound breakdown).

Silver

For committed learners. More studio-grade scoring, a much bigger library, longer recordings, more practice time per day, mobile offline practice, and the sound-by-sound breakdown. Still audio downloads.

Gold

Everything in Silver, plus video — upload your own video and download sources in 360p or 720p — an unlimited library, bigger storage, longer recordings, and higher daily scoring limits.

Platinum

For the heaviest users. Everything in Gold, plus high-resolution video (1080p, 1440p, and 4K), the longest recordings, the most practice time and scoring per day, the largest storage, and priority in the studio-grade scoring queue.

The 14-day trial. New accounts can start a 14-day free trial of a paid plan so you can try the paid experience. A payment method is required to start, but you're not charged during the trial. If you don't cancel before it ends, the trial converts to the paid plan you chose and billing begins; cancel any time before then and you won't be charged. See Changing, cancelling, and downgrading your plan.

Side-by-side comparison

These are the standard limits for each plan. (During your 14-day trial, you get the Silver column.)

¹ Unlimited private library means there's no cap on the number of items you keep — it's still bounded by your total storage above.

² Recording time / day counts only the time you spend recording — not listening to the original, waiting for a score, or reading your results. So 600 seconds is a lot of practice: at 10 seconds per attempt, that's around 60 attempts a day on the free plan. It's a fair-use limit (cost-optimized scoring counts toward it too), not a typical daily ceiling. "Recording audio kept for" is how long your raw recording audio is stored; your scores and history are kept regardless, so after that window you'll still see how you did — you just can't replay the original audio.

Lifetime plans

Gold and Platinum are also offered as one-time lifetime purchases (limited availability): pay once, keep that plan's features with no recurring charge. Lifetime versions are even a little more generous on some limits — for example, longer recording-audio retention and a few more monthly studio-grade scores and video downloads than the regular monthly plan.
