Export platform cookies from Firefox

This guide walks you through exporting a platform-cookie file from Firefox. The file is what lets Shadow Edge fetch sources from sites that require you to be signed in. (On Chrome, Edge, Brave, Arc, Opera, or Vivaldi, use the Chrome guide instead — the extension is different.)

Before you start. Only export and upload cookies for accounts whose content you have the right to practice with. Shadow Edge assumes no liability for any consequences resulting from infringement. Read our copyright policy →

What you'll need

  • Mozilla Firefox.
  • The cookies.txt add-on (the recommended tool for Firefox — it works entirely on your device).
  • To be signed in to the website you want to export cookies from.

Step 1 — Install the "cookies.txt" add-on

  1. Open the Firefox Add-ons site and search for cookies.txt.
  2. Click Add to Firefox, then confirm.
  3. Pin it to your toolbar so it's easy to find: click the puzzle-piece Extensions button, then the pin next to cookies.txt.

Step 2 — Sign in to the website

Open the website you want to use as a source (for example, https://youtube.com) and sign in with your own account — the same account you normally use to watch or listen there. Reload the page once after signing in.

Step 3 — Export the cookie file

  1. Stay on the website's own tab — the tab showing the site you signed in to must be the one you're looking at. The add-on exports cookies for whatever tab is in front of you.
  2. Click the cookies.txt icon in your toolbar. A small popup opens.
  3. Choose Current Site so the file contains only that site's cookies, then click Export (or Save).
  4. Firefox saves a .txt file to your Downloads folder.

You don't need to open the file or change anything inside it.

Don't copy from the Storage Inspector. Firefox has a built-in developer view that shows cookies, but the format it copies is not one Shadow Edge can read. Always use the cookies.txt add-on instead.
