How Shadow Edge stores your platform cookies
Uploading a cookie file means handing Shadow Edge your signed-in pass to a site. That's a reasonable thing to be cautious about, so here's exactly what we keep, who can see it, and what we never touch.
What we store
- The cookie file itself — kept in scrambled (encrypted) form, so it's unreadable at rest.
- Which platform it's for (e.g. YouTube) — so we know which file to use for which source.
- When it expires and when you last updated it — used to show the "expires in N days" badge.
That's all. We don't store your username, your password, your email at that platform, or anything else from your browser.
Who can see it
- You — you can see that you've saved a cookie for a platform, and when it expires, in Account → Platform cookies. You can delete it any time.
- The part of Shadow Edge that fetches your source — and only for the few seconds a download takes. It unscrambles the file, fetches your video or audio, and is done.
- Our team — cannot read the contents. The file is locked so that even staff with database access can't open it. Support can see that you have a cookie saved (to help you troubleshoot), never what's inside.
What Shadow Edge never does
- It never posts, comments, likes, or sends messages as you — it only reads the file you asked it to download.
- It never reads your inbox, watch history, or payment details on the platform.
- It never shares your cookie data with anyone else.
When you delete a cookie
Deleting a saved cookie in Account → Platform cookies removes it right away. Copies in our short-term backups age out automatically within about a month, and because the file is scrambled, they can't be read in the meantime. After that, it's gone for good.
Extra peace of mind
Because a cookie is just a copy of your signed-in session, you stay in control on the platform's side too: if you ever sign out of that platform, or change your password there, the cookie you gave us stops working immediately — for everyone, including Shadow Edge.
